August 22, 2007 I've got a thing for those stupid hp pouches.
I've done 3 today. 6hours in total. . . . . -.- And I've lost count. So it's the pink one plus 3 more. Probably did 9 in total so I've wasted at least 18 hours (and plenty of "I'm supposed to be asleep" or "I'm supposed to study" or "I'm supposed to do housework" time). Today being the I'm supposed to study option. I've got a trial test on Friday. I don't want to fail it. =s
Vig got me to do this. And so here are the steps.
Materials & others needed : 1 very huge pool of creativity 2 different types of cloth 1 cloth scissors 1 needle 1 spool of thread any kind of lace Sewing machine (optional) At least 2hours
Important note : If you're using really stretchable cloth with the sewing machine, please test it on excess cloth first, or place a paper below the cloth and sew them together, afterwhich you can carefully cut off the paper leaving at least 0.5cm circumference behind.
For best results : Use a combination of a thin cloth and a thick cloth so that the pouch will hold its shape and not be too stiff. Please use cloth that are rather smooth so they do not damage or scratch your item.
1. Sew two pieces of cloth together with design facing inwards. Mine was probably 9cm x 34cm. You could also try 18cm by 17cm. I used a combination of both. Basically all you need is to add 3cm from whatever item you like to make it for. Sew at about 0.75 to 1cm from the cutting. That leaves enough space for you to dig your fingers in to pull the item out still. =D
2. Invert either cloth and place it into the other. For best results, place the softer, easier to handle cloth inside.
3. Align them both properly and then sew them together, leaving a 3cm (or smaller if you like) gap, but still making sure you have enough space to pull out the cloth.
4. Pull out the inner cloth first.
This is how it looks with the inner cloth being pulled out.
5. Now, pull the other cloth through the hole.
This is how it should look like when both are pulled out.
6. Tug lightly on both cloth and arrange them properly and tuck in the excess part.
7. Push one of the sides into the centre and align them properly, ensuring that both cloth are equally placed so that when facing you (as if you're looking at the inside), both cloth are equal.
8. After tying a knot on your thread, go through the hole and pull out from one side of the cloth, then continue your running stitches. After you complete a round, go again, covering the blank areas. PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY'RE QUITE STRAIGHT OR IT'LL LOOK UGLY. IMPT : This is the only visible part of thread you'll see and it'll stay in your sight as long as you don't get bored of the pouch and throw it away.
On the sidenote, you can actually measure 2 cm (minimum) from the top and a) draw a line, then sew over it because it'll be covered eventually. Use a light pen though. b) everytime you poke the needle a little, measure with a ruler before pulling the whole thread through. c) use the sewing machine (without the string) and sew it back and forth a few times till you can see little dots which forms straight lines (but please test it on spare cloth first to ensure the cloth doesn't get damaged by the sewing machine).
The last option being the FASTEST ( I swear, option b is the most hand cramping thing you can ever do).
9. (no pic) Choose a suitable lace that fits the colour of the pouches (If you can't find any nice ones, go take them from your paper bags LOL). Poke a paper clip or pin through it and then make your way through the hole. Once done, tie a knot and pull as tightly as possible. Cut off the excess and use a lighter to burn the ends so they don't loosen themselves (please make sure the thing is made out of wax / can be burnt first).
10. Admire your beautiful artwork (and repeat steps 1 to 9 to make another for me wahaha =x).
Here's the final product (minus the chickadees, rabbit and smiley face background). That is licododo's pouch. By the way, I'm giving away all my chickadees and rabbits. I'm left with about 5 chickadees and 4 rabbits. It was supposed to be part of my laptop bag project but I've change my mind because I found such pretty cloth (aka the ones above) which just won't match well with those coloured babies anymore.
It's 1.10am now and I've got to get up at 7.30am. Goodnight!
